Playful Elegance Within Tranquility

“SAYAGATA TOBACCO” is a refined creation that unites traditional beauty and modern functionality.
The deep black achieved through ancient mud-dyeing adds a quiet dignity to the user’s gestures,
while the Sayagata motif subtly elevates its sophistication.

The clasp, crafted from an authentic Kanei Tsuho coin from the Edo period,
embodies the essence of iki — the timeless elegance and wit of old Edo —
a small yet striking detail that transcends eras.

Features

Limited Edition: Ancient Mud-Black Dye

A signature piece from Sumiyoroshi, carrying Japan’s refined traditions into the present day.
This bag is crafted using an authentic ancient mud-dyeing technique — a process so intricate that it can no longer be replicated today.

Its most remarkable feature is the profound shade known as “Fivefold Black.”
By repeatedly dyeing the silk at several times the usual pigment concentration,
the color gains a luminous depth — a black that shifts and breathes with light and movement.
It is not merely black, but a living color that transforms depending on the viewer’s perspective and the surrounding light.

The Sayagata motif honors the sun and symbolizes eternity and unending blessings through its continuous lines.
For centuries, it has represented prosperity, harmony, and connection, reflecting the timeless aesthetics of Japan.

Thoughtfully designed to maintain its elegant form even when filled,
it features dedicated pockets for filters and rolling papers,
ensuring both function and form remain beautifully balanced.

The clasp incorporates a genuine Edo-period Kanei Tsuho coin,
whose round shape allows for smooth, snag-free handling when carried in a pocket.
A timeless piece where craftsmanship meets playfulness, exuding the enduring iki spirit of Japan.

Motif: Sayagata — Symbol of the Sun, Eternity, and Everlasting Blessings
